106 KMEL celebrates 20 years of Hip Hop and R&B! KMEL was the first station in the nation to play music for young multi-racial audiences with Hip Hop, R&B, Dance, Freestyle, House, and Reggae music.

KMEL is noted as the station that helped launch the careers of many artists such as Tupac Shakur, Hammer, E-40, Too $hort, Mac Dre as well as breaking R&B Superstars Mariah Carey, Keyshia Cole, Mary J. Blige, D'Angelo, Maxwell and MORE!-The list goes on and on!

106 KMEL is the home of Summer Jam and House of Soul. Our commitment to Bay Area community involvement has been the backbone of this radio station since the beginning. KMEL continues to do the Annual Hip Hop for Hunger Food Drive and Christmas Toy Drives as well as supporting local community events and organizations.

Through the years, KMEL also has helped launch the careers of Bay Area and national personalities, including John London, Cameron Paul, Renel, Michael Erickson, the late Rick Chase, Chuy Gomez, Lisa St. Regis, Diana Steele, Theo Mizuhara, Trace and Franzen, Sana G, Big Von, Super Snake, Efren Sifuentes and MTV's Sway and King Tech.
